Winter is Ending: March Marketing Ideas

March Spa Marketing

Can you believe it’s the end of February already and we have only one month left to complete the first quarter of this year? How has business been so far?  Many parts of the US experienced bad weather since Christmas, including a huge northeast snowstorm that forced the closure of many spas over a Friday and Saturday.  Happily, big storms become less prevalent this late in the winter, so perhaps we’re out of the woods.  It’s time to crank up some marketing ideas for March so you can complete the first quarter on a positive note.

Your first focus should be Gift Cards.  If you collected contact information on gift card recipients from the Christmas holiday, now is a good time to contact them with a compelling offer to come in.  Yes, I realize this is not “cash in the door” business, but you’d like to start clearing those liabilities from your balance sheet, and a client who is in your spa provides opportunities to offer service upgrades or retail products to go along with their treatment.

St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Sunday this year, and depending on your spa’s location, this day ranges from a non-factor to a huge holiday.  If you fall into the latter category, you can tie in a promotion to an underlying theme such as celebrating Irish heritage, the color green, or even good luck.  Potatoes, sheep and wool sweaters might not count as factors in a great promotion, but other aspects of Ireland that can be highlighted, such as the natural beauty, the sea, the music and the healthy cuisine.

Many schools close for Spring Break the last week of March, between Palm Sunday and Easter, so families may be in vacation mode.  Wherever your spa is located, think about promotions marketing couples services, mom & daughter experiences or even small group promotions.  This will help you to attract transient guests on a vacation or give a staycation option to your local clients.  Use body services to promote a “spring back into shape” program before the warm weather hits.

As for the Retail area, use this time to clean out any left-over stock from the holiday or winter seasons.  You can package an assortment of products for particular skin types or purposes together in attractive organza bags tied with flowers or ribbon, or create a “grab box”. Then, any client who spends over a certain dollar amount can take home a free product.  Clients will enjoy this and you can clear out shelf space for new spring merchandise.
